What this site is

HowToCook (https://cannontales.com) is a bilingual home-cooking recipe site. It publishes ingredients, steps, and difficulty in Chinese and English. This policy explains how information related to your visit is handled.

Who operates the site

The site is operated by the site operator at cannontales.com. There is no separate registered company name or public street address to list here. To ask a question or exercise a privacy right, use the contact form.

Information we process

Contact form. If you send a message, we receive the name, email address, and message you type. The browser posts that form directly to Web3Forms (https://api.web3forms.com/submit). This site does not proxy or store form submissions on its own servers. Web3Forms then emails the site operator. Do not send passwords or other sensitive secrets in a message.

Recipe submissions. If you use the public submit form, we store the title, category, source language, ingredients, steps, and optional notes you enter as a draft on our servers (Cloudflare D1) so an administrator can review it. Unpublished drafts are not shown on the public list. You do not need an account. Ask us to delete an unpublished submission via the contact form.

Essential cookies. First-party cookies (Path=/, SameSite=Lax, up to about one year) remember language (howtocook-locale) and light/dark appearance (howtocook-theme). These are needed to provide the service you asked for and are not used for advertising.

Analytics. Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JL9BDPMJZR) loads by default so we can understand traffic and improve the site. Google may set its own cookies and process page views, approximate location, and device or browser data. See Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Legal bases (GDPR)

• Essential cookies: necessary to provide the requested service, and our legitimate interest in running the site (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Contact form and recipe submissions: your consent when you submit, and our legitimate interest in answering or reviewing content (Art. 6(1)(a) and (f)).
• Analytics: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it (Art. 6(1)(f)).

How long we keep information

Contact emails are kept only as long as needed to reply. Web3Forms processes them under its own terms.

Recipe drafts stay until they are published, deleted, or you ask us to remove an unpublished submission.

Preference cookies last up to about one year, or until you clear them in your browser.

Analytics retention follows Google’s product settings. We do not control Google’s servers.

Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA (or another place with similar rules), you can usually ask to access, correct, or delete personal data, restrict or object to processing, receive a copy, withdraw consent, and complain to a supervisory authority. Use the contact form to make a request.

International processing

Web3Forms and Google may process information outside the EU. Analytics loads by default for site improvement.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect children’s personal information.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page will change when we do.
