Ingredients

  • Beef (flank steak or sirloin cut is recommended)
  • Onion
  • Vegetable peppers (red/yellow)
  • Cornstarch (starch)
  • Black pepper powder (ground black pepper)
  • Black pepper marinade (sauce)
  • Salt
  • Peanut oil
  • Note: The powder and marinade can be substituted for each other; please refer to the instructions on the product packaging you purchase.
  • A non-stick pan is recommended.

Steps

  1. Slice the beef into strips. The ideal length is no more than 8 cm, with a thickness of about 5-10 mm and width of about 1 cm (these measurements are not strict).
  2. Marinate the beef using the marinade. After mixing evenly, let it sit. Please follow the product instructions for the quantity and time; the marinating time can be extended but not shortened.
  3. If using a liquid marinade, sprinkle a layer of black pepper powder three minutes before the marinating ends, then add the starch. Mix evenly and let it sit for another 20 minutes.
  4. Turn on the heat and heat the pan. Add the peanut oil.
  5. When a wisp of smoke appears in the pan, add the beef and stir-fry.
  6. Turn the heat to medium-high and fry for 2 minutes until the outside of the beef changes color (there should be no obvious blood color; obvious blood indicates the beef was not stir-fried thoroughly). (Caution: oil splatter at this stage).
  7. Add the onion and vegetable peppers and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  8. Add salt and sprinkle another layer of black pepper powder. Stir-fry for 30 seconds and mix evenly.
  9. Once the onion has softened, turn off the heat, serve, and plate.
